Durham Invitation match 6 2026
The last match in the Durham invitational series took place on Lookout Lake, the Angel of the North lakes on Friday 9th of October 2026. This was a re-scheduled match as the earlier match was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
Weather forecast for the day was not ideal with a blustery wind and heavy showers forecast.
Three anglers remained in contention for the series win namely Paul Hutchinson and Kevin Hood from Northumbria and Roy McClean from Durham.
At the draw Kevin drew peg 32 which is in a good area. Roy drew peg 5 on the island again in a good area. Hutch drew star peg 1. The match and the series was his to lose as peg 1 is a seriously good peg and wins the vast majority of matches on there. As I’ve said many times this is fishing not catching and you still have to put fish in the net to win.
The “All in” was called at 11am.
Dave Brown on peg 15 was into fish straight away and caught around 30lb of carp in the first 30 minutes fishing down the edge at his feet before the fish backed off.
Roy was fishing bomb and pellet and was picking up odd fish.
Kevin was alternating between method feeder and bomb and pellet and was also picking up fish.
Hutch on peg 1 was really struggling. The strong wind was hampering his presentation and he was struggling to cast the long distance to the aerator where the carp were feeding.
Time was called at 4pm.
The weighmen were sent to the anglers and the results were as follows;
1st Kevin Hood Peg 32 68lb 14oz
2nd Roy McClean Peg 5 62lb 5oz
3rd Dave Brown Peg 15 53lb
Some good weights there on what proved to be a difficult day.
Well done to Kevin Hood for winning the match. Kevin has been in sparkling form for the last few matches.
How did this affect the overall standings.
1st Roy McClean 6pts 436lb 11oz
2nd Paul Hutchinson 9pts 373lb 2oz
3rd Kevin Hood 9pts 321lb 9oz
Roy has been Mr Consistency this season and deserved the victory after his hard work. Roy and Hutch have had some epic tussles with Paul narrowly beating Roy to win the Northumbria open series.
Adding these results to those from the Northumbria invitational series and we have our season champion.

A big well done to our champion and thoroughly deserved.
