Northumbria Police Sea Angling Club
The sea angling section is open to serving and retired police officers and staff. New members are welcomed. The club competes in two disciplines boat and shore; whilst some fish only boat or shore, many continue throughout the year in both.
The shore league consists of ten matches with the best six scores counting towards league positions at the end of the year to allow shifts to give all members a chance of a good end of year result. Generally, the league is split into four matches between January and March and the final six between September and December. There are also some additional cup and challenge matches as well as fixtures against other clubs and associations such as Army teams and The Civil Service. We encourage guests to join the matches and run a separate league with a trophy so any new members can bring their angling friends to join them. Any novices are warmly welcomed, and we have a depth of knowledge to draw from. Many of our regular guests have competed and managed at national and international level and are ready to pass on their knowledge. Matches are fished from several set boundaries with half north of the Tyne and the others south.
The boat season is dependent on conditions but aim to run a series of matches from ports such as Craster, Hartlepool and Whitby. Again, the league is determined from match positions with nominated matches counting towards national competition qualification. As with the shore, guests are welcome, and advice is available for anyone wanting to try the sport for the first time. Many of the matches are fished along with neighbouring regional force teams to fill boats and minimise costs.
Both sections compete in PSUK regional and national competitions and have been very successful. Teams are usually selected from league positions from the previous year. These competitions allow members to experience new venues around the country and make longtime friends. Many of our members regularly compete in PSUK sanctioned events and are represented on the sea angling national committee.
Anyone wanting to give the sport a try or to find out a bit more about the events please give us a call or message.
