Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Once a month I run a Northumbria Police Sports and Social Club Brazilian Jiu Jitsu session.

The sessions are 2 hrs long with 90 min instruction covering hand fighting, takedowns, pins and submissions and how to defend all of these. Then 30 min of submission grappling sparring.

The sessions are suitable for all fitness and experience levels.

Come and have a look. Find out what it’s like to make techniques work against a fully resisting opponent.

Contact Craig Briggs (7411) for more information.

Insp 7411 Craig Briggs and Pc 8529 Matthew Trevena recently represented Northumbria Police in the first Team Police Brazilian Jiu Jitsu National Championships.

This took place on 3rd June 2023 and was held at Birmingham at the Sir Doug Ellis Woodcock Sports Centre.

Insp Briggs took a Silver medal in the Masters Middle Weight bracket and Matty took Bronze in the Adult Middle Weight and a Bronze in the Absolute category.

Not bad going for our first run out as part of the NPSSC BJJ Section.

The NPSSC BJJ Section meets once a month. Please contact Inspector Craig Briggs for further details.
