However this August @Matthew Trevena 8529 is starting a Northern section of the BJJ club which will meet at a venue in North Shields. Insp 7411 Craig Briggs and Pc 8529 Matthew Trevena recently represented Northumbria Police in the first Team Police Brazilian Jiu Jitsu National Championships.
This took place on 3rd June 2023 and was held at Birmingham at the Sir Doug Ellis Woodcock Sports Centre.
Insp Briggs took a Silver medal in the Masters Middle Weight bracket and Matty took Bronze in the Adult Middle Weight and a Bronze in the Absolute category.
Not bad going for our first run out as part of the NPSSC BJJ Section.

Team Police BJJ No Gi Championships 2023
On 2nd December 2023 6 representatives of NPSSC BJJ Section travelled down to Cheshire Police HQ with an adopted Durpol officer to compete in the Team Police BJJ No Gi Championships 2023. A hard day of competing resulted in 6 gold medals and 2 bronze medals. Some excellent demonstrations of skill, courage and resilience.

The 2025 Police National Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships took place in Maidstone, Kent on 3rd May.
@Matthew Trevena 8529 and @Sara Summers 3801 represented Northumbria Police and came away with an impressive haul of 5 gold medals and one silver.
Matty fought in the middleweight blue belt category gaining a gold medal in the no-gi section and a silver in the gi .
Sara fought in middleweight white belt winning gold in no-gi and gold in the gi. She then went on to the open weight absolute category and took a further two gold medals. An outstanding result from both athletes.
